One-on-One Counseling

VIsiting students at Denison University

At the core of my work, I love counseling teens. I am passionate about fostering relationships where clients can be honest and compassionate (often to themselves!) in order to set and realize ambitious goals for their future. My purpose in providing one-on-one counseling is to provide knowledge, resources, and support to students and parents so that young people may make informed decisions about their postsecondary paths and, ultimately, feel empowered to live their best lives.

With so many colleges and universities out there, knowing where to apply can be daunting. I’m here to help your student identify their options and make a plan for applying.

The following counseling packages can be adapted to your family’s needs:

Mapping Your Future (5 Sessions)

In these 5 sessions, your student and I will explore what they are are seeking in a college and map out a plan for applying during senior year. Together, we will curate a list of colleges/programs based on your student’s interests, academic profile, and financial need.

  • Session 1: What are you seeking in a college?
  • Session 2: Create a College List – Round 1
  • Session 3: Refine the College List – Round 2
  • Session 4: Play to Your Strengths – Understanding What to Highlight in the Application Process
  • Session 5: Make an Application Plan

Prepping the Personal Statement (3-6 Sessions)

The personal statement is your student’s moment to shine. For many students, crafting a personal narrative can be overwhelming. Working side-by-side, I will guide your student to write their story – in their own words, with their own voice.

In addition to the following in-person sessions, I will provide online editing support between sessions.

  • Session 1: Identify a theme
  • Session 2: Review, edit, strengthen
  • Session 3: Final edits! (Hopefully!)
  • Sessions 4-6 (optional): Continued development and editing for the personal statement, supplemental essays, and resume/activities list

Financial Aid for ANY Family (1-2 Sessions)

You’re not alone in your concern about the astronomical costs of college. Here’s the good news: Many colleges will award financial support to students from low-, middle-, and upper-income households. The key is knowing how to access that money.

Before and after your session, I will research options available to you and your child so that you go into the college process armed with knowledge, confidence, and resources.

  • Session 1: Know what your child is eligible for!
  • Session 2 (optional): Review financial aid options; complete forms (they can be long and confusing!) together; make a plan for the future!
