College Access Support

I am dedicated to guiding young people of all backgrounds to understand their postsecondary options and make a plan that fits their academic readiness, professional goals, and personal interests. Throughout my career, my experience has centered on leading teachers, administrators, and counselors to consider the needs of first-gen, Black and Latinx students, largely from low-income households, so that their students may make informed decisions about life beyond high school. It’s not enough to get kids to apply to college — our job is to get them to graduate.

Every student should be able to access the education and resources necessary to lead a life of choice and opportunity.

The following menu of services can be adapted to your organization’s mission and needs.

Strategic College Prep Support

In collaboration with program staff, I will develop a long-term strategic plan aimed at increasing measurable goals, including college enrollment, matriculation, and persistence.

Specific projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing college preparatory curriculum and timeline for grades 9-12
  • Designing targeted supports for college freshmen
  • Introducing students to variety of postsecondary options via campus visits, career panels, and college fairs

Educator/Mentor Coaching

Your teachers, administrators, mentors, and volunteers do outstanding work every day. My goal is to provide your organization’s educators with the tools and knowledge needed to guide each and every student towards ambitious, realistic, and antiracist postsecondary goals.

Coaching services include, but are not limited to:

  • One-on-one coaching
  • Group professional development
  • Reading supplements to prepare teachers/mentors to lead high school students to and through college

College Knowledge Workshops

Through a series of interactive workshops, designed specifically for your organization, I will lead a target audience (i.e. students, families, or staff) to break down the complexities of the college process.

Workshop options include, but are not limited to:

  • Creating a College List
  • Financial Aid/Paying for College
  • The Three Fit Factors: Academic, Financial, and Cultural/Social
  • What can my student be doing now to prepare for the college process?
  • Motivating ALL Students to Make a Postsecondary Plan
  • Supporting Non-Traditional Students
  • Recognizing, Owning, and Changing our Own Biases in Counseling Students of Color

One-on-One Counseling

Your students deserve to know their options. I will work individually with your selected students to explore their interests, create a list of viable postsecondary options, collaborate with their parents, and apply, matriculate, and persist in their plan.

See One-on-One Counseling for Students and Families for sample packages. Services for your students can be tailored to your organization’s specific needs.
